Flood Situation Worsens, Water Levels Extremely High at Ganda Singh Wala, Head Sulemanki, Head Qadirabad, Khanki, and Muhammad Wala in Punjab
Lahore, Dadu: The flood situation has worsened due to excess water released by India into rivers, wreaking havoc in southern Punjab. At Guddu Barrage in Sindh, 357,000 cusecs of water discharge was recorded, while Sukkur Barrage reported 327,000 cusecs. In Punjab, water levels have reached extremely high points at Ganda Singh Wala, Head Sulemanki, Head Qadirabad, Khanki, and Muhammad Wala. Severe flooding in the Sutlej, Ravi, and Chenab rivers has caused multiple embankments to collapse, submerging dozens more villages. The floodwaters also damaged fencing erected by India along the border; around 110 kilometers of barbed fence in Indian territory came under floodwaters, and 90 Border Security Force (BSF) posts were submerged.
In Mandi Bahauddin, two young men drowned. At Shujaabad, near Sher Shah, the protective embankment of Basti Gagra broke, creating a 200-foot breach that allowed floodwaters to enter nearby settlements. In Multan’s Basti Garewala, water levels continued to rise, submerging crops on hundreds of thousands of acres. At Baloki, several more villages are at risk of flooding. In Multan, the Zemindar embankment broke, pushing water closer to the city; dozens of settlements are already submerged, with the floodwaters reaching Sher Shah Toll Plaza. A section of the Dera Ghazi Khan National Highway was affected, and a temporary embankment was constructed to block the water.
In Sutlej, Bahawalpur, multiple embankments collapsed under heavy flooding. From Band Islam, a flow of 100,000 cusecs submerged four tehsils. In Gujrat, even after three days, water had not been drained from streets and neighborhoods; shops, markets, and offices remained closed for the second consecutive day. At Shorkot in Jhang, the Chenab River faced medium-level flooding, with 260,000 cusecs passing under Sultan Bahu Bridge. At Darkhana, floodwaters struck the railway bridge, keeping the Shorkot–Khanewal rail section closed for the second day.
In Pindi Bhattian, a high flood alert was issued, with a flow of 557,000 cusecs recorded. At Ahmedpur Sial, a breach occurred in Samandwana embankment, inundating several areas and damaging crops. In Liaquatpur, the floodwaters of the Chenab and Indus rivers caused widespread devastation. Many villages in Noorwala were submerged, and vast areas of farmland went underwater.
In Chiniot, rescue teams carried out operations in Thattha Hashmat and Dom village, relocating 25 people to safer places; so far, 1,312 people have been rescued. Khanewal also suffered heavy destruction, with dozens of villages inundated. At Uch Sharif, the Sutlej River’s floodwaters entered 20 more residential settlements, drowning thousands of acres of farmland. At Trimmu Barrage on the Chenab River, high-level flooding was reported, with an inflow of 331,000 cusecs.
At Arifwala, the flood situation in the Sutlej River is feared to worsen. Several feet of floodwater accumulated in Chak Yasin, where a government school came under floodwaters. Many more villages are at risk, with thousands of acres of crops, link roads, and settlements already submerged. At Head Baloki, water levels in the Ravi River continue to rise.
