New York;A senior Chinese envoy underscored China’s active role in promoting global women’s development at the UN High-level Meeting marking the 30th Anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women, held in New York on Monday.
Huang Xiaowei, deputy head of the National Working Committee on Children and Women of the State Council and vice president of the All-China Women’s Federation, expressed China’s appreciation to the UN General Assembly for convening the commemorative meeting.
Huang noted that in collaboration with UNESCO, China jointly launched the UNESCO Prize for Girls’ and Women’s Education in 2015. Since then, the initiative has helped train more than 200,000 women from over 180 countries and regions.
Highlighting China’s legacy as the host of the landmark 1995 Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, Huang reaffirmed that China has consistently honored its commitments to women’s empowerment through practical measures and international cooperation.
Under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, China has steadfastly implemented the fundamental national policy of gender equality, successively issued four national programs for women’s development, and established a legal system comprising over 100 laws and regulations to protect women’s rights and interests, Huang added.
All those efforts have significantly advanced the economic empowerment, health, education, employment, political participation and social security of Over 690 million women in China, Huang said.
