Islamabad: China will provide 3,000 Pakistani citizens with training and educational opportunities during 2025–2029, under a new bilateral cooperation initiative.
This commitment is part of the “China-Pakistan Action Plan (2025–2029),” which was agreed upon during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to Beijing. The plan highlights cooperation in the fields of science, technology, and human resources as a key aspect.
According to details available with Wealth Pakistan, Pakistan and China will strengthen joint research programs in applied and basic sciences. Under the Belt and Road Initiative, new laboratories will be established focusing on disaster prevention and mitigation, early warning systems, small hydropower projects, climate change, air pollution control, new energy sources, food and agriculture, medicine and health, and artificial intelligence.
The plan also includes an expansion of talent exchange in science and technology. Pakistani researchers and administrative staff will be offered training and education opportunities in China. For this purpose, support will be provided through programs such as the “Talented Young Scientist Program,” “International Technical Training Workshop for Developing Countries,” “CAS President’s International Fellowship Initiative,” and the “CAS-ENSO Scholarship.” Furthermore, both countries will deepen cooperation under the Belt and Road Science, Technology, and Innovation Cooperation Action Plan, which includes special programs in spatial information, artificial intelligence, and traditional medicine. The training scope will also cover marine sciences and energy resources.
The plan also calls for joint surveys and research on natural gas hydrates in coastal areas and enhanced cooperation in marine technology. Moreover, it emphasizes exchanges in cybersecurity and data security to strengthen capacity in the digital sector.
In addition, the plan underlines cooperation in mutual recognition of engineers, employment promotion, skills development, and improvements in the social security system. Through this initiative, China will directly assist Pakistan in building capacity in science, technology, and human resources.
Officials from both countries expect that this step will further strengthen academic, professional, and technical relations and bring long-term benefits to the peoples of Pakistan and China.
