Beijing : A grand ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War was held at Tiananmen Square in Beijing, the capital of China. General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, President of the People’s Republic of China, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, Xi Jinping, delivered an important address at the event.
On Wednesday, Xi Jinping said that today, by solemnly commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, “we pay tribute to the martyrs in memory of history, safeguard peace, and create a better future.”
In his speech, he extended high tribute, on behalf of the CPC Central Committee, the National People’s Congress, the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, and the Central Military Commission, to all the soldiers, veteran comrades, patriots, commanders, and overseas Chinese who took part in the resistance and made important contributions to this great victory. He also expressed heartfelt gratitude to foreign governments and international friends who assisted the Chinese people during the war, and warmly welcomed the guests from many countries attending today’s ceremony.
Xi Jinping stressed that the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression was a great and extremely arduous struggle. Under the banner of the united national front established at the suggestion of the Communist Party of China, the Chinese people, with firm resolve, fought the powerful enemy, and with extraordinary perseverance won the first complete victory against foreign aggression in modern times. This resistance was an important part of the global war against fascism. With enormous national sacrifice, the Chinese people made outstanding contributions to the defense of human civilization and world peace.
President Xi emphasized that history warns us that the future of humanity is interconnected. Only through equality, peaceful coexistence, and cooperation can different countries and nations ensure common security, eliminate the root causes of war, and prevent the repetition of historical tragedies.
He noted that the Chinese nation is a great people unafraid of brutality and founded on self-reliance. At that time, in the confrontation between justice and injustice, light and darkness, progress and regression, and in the battle of life and death, the Chinese people united and waged a bitter struggle for national survival, rejuvenation, and human justice. “Today, humanity once again faces the choice between peace or war, dialogue or confrontation, win-win cooperation or zero-sum games. The Chinese people will resolutely stand on the right side of history and the advancement of human civilization. We will stay committed to the path of peaceful development and work with the people of all countries to build a community with a shared future for mankind,” Xi said.
President Xi declared that the People’s Liberation Army of China has always been a reliable and heroic force for the CPC and the people. He urged all servicemen to faithfully perform their sacred duties, accelerate the building of a world-class military, firmly safeguard national sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, provide strategic support for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, and make greater contributions to world peace and development.
He pointed out that history carries the past into the future and provides guidance for tomorrow. In the new era and on the new journey, people of all ethnic groups across the country, under the strong leadership of the Communist Party of China, will remain committed to Marxism, Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, Deng Xiaoping Theory, the important thought of “Three Represents,” the Scientific Outlook on Development, and comprehensively implement the Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. Staying firmly on the socialist path with Chinese characteristics, they will unite to carry forward the great spirit of the resistance, and with diligence and courage, advance Chinese-style modernization to build a strong nation and comprehensively promote the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
President Xi concluded by affirming that the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is unstoppable, and the great cause of peace and development of humanity will surely be achieved.
