Beijing: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Wednesday called on the United States to act prudently on matters concerning China’s core interests, particularly Taiwan.
In a phone conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Wang — who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee — emphasized that China and the US, as major global powers, bear shared responsibilities for world peace, stability, and prosperity.
“To ensure the two giant ships of China and the United States sail forward without deviation or loss of momentum, it is vital to follow the strategic guidance of our two heads of state and faithfully implement the consensus they have reached,” Wang said.
He expressed strong opposition to recent US actions and statements that, according to Beijing, undermine China’s legitimate rights, interfere in its internal affairs, and hinder the improvement of bilateral relations.
Recalling that China and the US once fought side by side in World War II against fascism and militarism, Wang stressed that in today’s era, both countries should again cooperate to meet global challenges and contribute to a more stable and prosperous world.
