Pakistan considers SAARC an important platform for regional cooperation

Islamabad:Secretary-General of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), Md. Golam Sarwar, visited Pakistan from 20 to 24 May 2024. This was his first visit to Pakistan since assuming office in October 2023.

The Secretary-General called on Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and met with Foreign Secretary Muhammad Syrus Sajjad Qazi. SAARC’s potential for regional cooperation and the possibility of the Organization’s reinvigoration were discussed during these meetings.

The Secretary-General visited the SAARC Energy Centre and the SAARC Arbitration Council, where he received briefings on the activities of these bodies. He interacted with intelligentsia at the Institute of Regional Studies and the Institute of Strategic Studies, Islamabad. The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry also organized an event in honour of the Secretary-General.

As a founding member, Pakistan considers SAARC an important platform for regional cooperation and remains committed to the objectives and principles of the SAARC Charter.
