Rana Sanaullah elected Senator with 250 votes on Ijaz Chaudhry’s seat

Lahore: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s Advisor on Political Affairs and PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah has been elected Senator with 250 votes on the seat vacated by Ijaz Chaudhry.

According to unofficial and unconfirmed results of the Senate election, a total of 251 votes were cast, out of which one was rejected.

Earlier, while speaking to the media outside the Punjab Assembly, Rana Sanaullah said that opposition members had contacted him and offered to vote for him — their number being around 10 to 12 — but he refused their support.

He further said that PTI’s boycott reflects a lack of confidence in its own members. Their attitude is undemocratic and unpolitical. Those blindly following the PTI founder only want chaos, conflict, and disorder.

The PML-N leader also stated that it is not just the government or an institution, but the entire nation that must stop them. PTI has no option left except to escape.

Polling for the by-election on the Senate seat vacated after PTI Senator Ijaz Chaudhry’s disqualification was held in the Punjab Assembly.

Although PTI boycotted the by-election, their candidate Salma Ijaz’s name remained on the ballot paper along with PML-N’s Rana Sanaullah, as PTI did not formally withdraw her nomination.

The Lahore High Court, while hearing Ijaz Chaudhry’s petition to stop the election, made the by-election for the Senate seat subject to the court’s final decision.
