Abu Dhabi: In an important Super Four stage match of the Asia Cup T20, Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by 5 wickets.
At the Abu Dhabi Cricket Stadium, the Pakistan team chased down the target of 134 runs in 18 overs for the loss of 5 wickets. Mohammad Nawaz scored 38 runs, while Hussain Talat contributed 32 runs.
Sahibzada Farhan made 24, Fakhar Zaman 47, Saim Ayub 2, captain Salman Ali Agha 5, and Mohammad Haris 15 runs before getting out.
Earlier, Pakistan won the toss and invited Sri Lanka to bat first. The Sri Lankan side managed to score 133 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis opened the innings, but Kusal Mendis was caught by Hussain Talat off Shaheen Afridi’s bowling at the team total of just 1 run. At 18 runs, Sri Lanka lost their second wicket when Pathum Nissanka was caught after scoring 8 runs, also off Shaheen’s bowling.
At 43 runs, Kusal Perera scored 15 before being caught by Mohammad Haris off Faheem Ashraf. Sri Lankan captain Asalanka made 20, while Dasun Shanaka was dismissed without scoring. Wanindu Hasaranga added 15 runs before being taken by Abrar Ahmed, while Kamindu Mendis stood out with a knock of 50 runs.
Dushmantha Chameera scored just 1, while Chamika Karunaratne played a not-out innings of 17 runs off 21 balls.
For Pakistan, Shaheen Afridi claimed 3 wickets, Haris Rauf and Hussain Talat took 2 each, while Abrar Ahmed picked up one wicket.
