Beijing:China and Saudi Arabia will hold their joint naval exercise “Blue Sword-2025” in Saudi Arabia in mid to late October, the Chinese Ministry of National Defense announced on Friday.
According to Defense Ministry spokesperson Jiang Bin, the exercise will be the third edition of the Blue Sword series and aims to enhance the level of practical cooperation between the two navies.
Jiang said the joint training is designed to deepen mutual trust, strengthen coordination in maritime operations, and promote professional exchanges on tactics, skills, and joint combat capabilities.
He emphasized that the exercise will serve as an important step in implementing the consensus reached by the leadership of both countries and will further consolidate the China-Saudi comprehensive strategic partnership.
Military analysts view the Blue Sword drills as part of the growing defense and security cooperation between Beijing and Riyadh, which has expanded in recent years to include joint exercises, counterterrorism cooperation, and defense technology exchanges.
The previous Blue Sword joint naval trainings were held in 2019 and 2023, focusing on maritime search and rescue operations, anti-piracy maneuvers, and joint command coordination.
