Pakistan expressed concern over the contents of the India-Afghanistan Joint Statement

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has expressed concern over the contents of the India-Afghanistan Joint Statement and the remarks made by Afghanistan’s Acting Foreign Minister during his visit to India.

In a statement, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Pakistan’s strong reservations regarding the elements of the India-Afghanistan Joint Statement, issued in New Delhi on October 10, 2025, were conveyed to the Afghan Ambassador in Islamabad by the Additional Foreign Secretary (West Asia & Afghanistan).

The Afghan Ambassador was informed that the reference to Jammu and Kashmir as part of India is a blatant violation of the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and the disputed legal status of Jammu and Kashmir.

The spokesperson said the joint statement is contrary to the aspirations and sacrifices of the people of the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) in their just struggle for the right to self-determination.

The spokesperson further stated that Pakistan strongly rejects the remarks made by Afghanistan’s Acting Foreign Minister suggesting that terrorism is Pakistan’s internal issue. Pakistan has repeatedly provided details of the presence of terrorist elements — linked to Fitna-e-Khawarij and Fitna-e-Hindustan — operating from Afghan soil with support from certain elements inside Afghanistan. Shifting the responsibility of counterterrorism efforts onto Pakistan does not absolve the Afghan interim government of its regional and international obligations.

The spokesperson emphasized that, in the spirit of good neighborliness and Islamic brotherhood, Pakistan has hosted around four million Afghan nationals for the past four decades. As peace gradually returns to Afghanistan, it is now time for Afghan nationals residing illegally in Pakistan to return to their homeland.

The spokesperson added that, like all other countries and in line with international norms and practices, Pakistan has the sovereign right to regulate the presence of foreign nationals on its territory. Keeping in view the medical and educational needs of Afghan citizens, Pakistan has generously issued medical and study visas as well. Pakistan, guided by the spirit of Islamic solidarity and good neighborliness, will continue to extend humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people.

The spokesperson reiterated that Pakistan desires a peaceful, stable, regionally connected, and prosperous Afghanistan. To this end, Pakistan has extended maximum possible trade, economic, and connectivity facilitation to Afghanistan — measures aimed at promoting cooperation and socio-economic development between the two countries.

The spokesperson concluded by affirming that the Government of Pakistan has the responsibility to take all necessary measures for the safety and security of its people. Pakistan expects the Afghan interim government to cooperate in this regard and to take concrete steps to prevent its soil from being used by Fitna-e-Khawarij and Fitna-e-Hindustan terrorist elements against Pakistan.
