Manshera:As winter recedes and spring breathes life into the landscape, the SK Hydropower Project site in Pakistan—invested in and operated by China Energy Overseas Investment Co., Ltd.—is blossoming with fresh vegetation and vibrant scenery.

In line with the principles of green development, SK Hydro Private Limited recently co-hosted an afforestation campaign titled “Beautify the Kunhar River Bank, Build a Green Power Station Together”.

The initiative was organized in collaboration with the local government, forestry department, environmental protection agency, and the project’s operation and maintenance (O&M) contractor.

During the event, participants planted saplings along the hillsides, injecting new life and vitality into the surroundings of the hydropower project.

Each shovel lifted and every sapling planted reinforced SK Hydro’s commitment to environmental stewardship and corporate social responsibility.

This marks the eighth consecutive year that SK Hydro Private Limited has conducted tree-planting activities in support of Pakistan’s “Billion Tree Tsunami” initiative, with a cumulative total of approximately 160,000 saplings planted to date.

Years of consistent afforestation have not only helped reduce soil erosion near the project site but have also significantly enhanced the ecological landscape of the power station.

The project serves as a vivid example of Chinese enterprises embracing green development and highlights the shared dedication of Chinese and Pakistani builders to “promote green development and achieve win-win symbiosis.”

As the largest greenfield hydropower investment by a Chinese enterprise overseas and the largest hydropower project invested by CEEC abroad, the SK Hydropower Project began commercial operations on September 14, 2024. Since then, it has delivered a cumulative total of over 3.1 billion kWh of clean electricity, contributing to the optimization of Pakistan’s energy structure and supporting high-quality economic and social development.

Through these concrete actions, the project exemplifies ecological cooperation and mutual benefit between China and Pakistan.
