PM Shehbaz welcomes Malaysia’s $200 million Halal meat import decision

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has welcomed Malaysia’s decision to import $200 million worth of Halal meat from Pakistan, calling it a major step toward enhancing bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

Addressing a joint press conference with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, PM Shehbaz said Pakistan looks forward to benefiting from Malaysia’s experience in information technology, artificial intelligence, vocational training, and economic development, adding that both sides aim to launch joint ventures in key sectors.

The two leaders witnessed the signing of six MoUs covering cooperation in higher education, tourism, Halal certification, anti-corruption, and SME development.

PM Shehbaz described Malaysia as his “second home” and praised Anwar Ibrahim’s visionary leadership, noting that Malaysia’s growth serves as a model for Pakistan. He assured that Pakistan would fully meet Malaysia’s Halal certification and quality requirements for meat exports and hoped the export quota would increase over time.

The Pakistani premier also attended the launch of the Urdu translation of Anwar Ibrahim’s book “The Script,” which he described as a “bridge of knowledge” between the two nations.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, while praising Pakistan’s professionals and students in Malaysia, said both countries were committed to expanding cooperation in defense, energy, and green technology. He lauded Pakistan’s stance on Palestine and Gaza, stressing that both nations share a common vision for peace and development in the region.
