Special Focus Needed on Empowering Women and Girls Through Education: President Zardari

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has emphasized the need to give special attention to empowering women and girls through education, saying that no nation can realize its true potential until half of its population participates in the development process. He said the Government of Pakistan is firmly committed to promoting literacy and is moving towards this goal through strong public policies, investment in quality education, innovation in digitalization, and community engagement.

In his message on the occasion of International Literacy Day, the President said:
“On this International Literacy Day, I appeal to all Pakistanis to renew their commitment to this noble cause and strive to build a Pakistan where literacy is widespread, education is inclusive, and knowledge is accessible to everyone.”

President Zardari extended heartfelt congratulations to the people of Pakistan and to all individuals across the world who are striving to establish a global society where learning opportunities are available to all.

He stated that literacy is not just the ability to read and write, but also about fostering intellectual growth, ensuring self-respect, and recognizing it as a fundamental human right. “It gives individuals confidence, provides them a voice in society, and opens doors to opportunities that would otherwise remain out of reach,” he said.

The President added that literacy is the foundation of personal development and social progress, enabling citizens to fully participate in the economy, culture, and democracy. He emphasized that literacy is the basis of nation-building for Pakistan as it plays a key role in reducing poverty, promoting innovation, strengthening democracy, and ensuring sustainable development.

“A literate nation is a strong nation—capable of addressing its challenges with wisdom, resilience, and creativity,” he said.

President Zardari underlined the importance of focusing particularly on women’s and girls’ education:
“An educated woman not only transforms her own life but also contributes to the well-being of her family and society. She becomes a torchbearer of change and progress. Investment in women’s education guarantees healthy families, a stronger economy, and a more just society.”

He reiterated that no nation can achieve its true potential until half of its population takes part in the development journey. He reaffirmed that the Government of Pakistan is committed to advancing literacy through robust policies, investment in quality education, innovation in digitalization, and community involvement.

He further noted that Pakistan is strengthening both formal and non-formal education to ensure that every child, youth, and adult—regardless of age, gender, or socio-economic background—has access to learning opportunities.

“This national duty requires collective resolve,” the President stressed, calling on families, communities, civil society, media, and the private sector to play their part. “We must promote a culture of learning and make education a shared national asset.”

On International Literacy Day, he once again urged all Pakistanis to recommit themselves to this noble mission and work for a Pakistan where literacy is widespread, education is inclusive, and knowledge is accessible to all.

President Asif Ali Zardari emphasized the collective responsibility to build a society that upholds human dignity, empowers women, and harnesses the full potential of its citizens for peace, prosperity, and progress. He prayed for Allah Almighty to grant success in this mission and make Pakistan a bright, educated, and prosperous country.
