Srinagar: Brave and resolute Hurriyat leader Professor Abdul Ghani Bhat passed away at the age of 89.

Abdul Ghani Bhat dedicated his entire life to the struggle for Kashmir’s freedom.

The former Chairman of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference and a prominent leader of the Kashmir freedom movement, Professor Abdul Ghani Bhat, passed away at his Sopore residence after a prolonged illness.

According to Kashmir Media Service, 89-year-old Abdul Ghani Bhat hailed from Botengo village in North Kashmir, located about 10 kilometers from Sopore.

This great leader received his education in Persian, Economics, and Political Science from Sri Pratap College in Srinagar. Later, he obtained a Master’s degree in Persian and a law degree from Aligarh Muslim University.

He was among the founding members of the Muslim United Front. Abdul Ghani Bhat also contested the 1987 Assembly elections.

Due to his dedication, hard work, and resilience in the struggle for Kashmir’s freedom, Abdul Ghani Bhat went on to become the Chairman of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference.

He also headed the Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference, which had been banned by the Indian government.

The organization’s core stance was the rejection of India’s illegal occupation of Kashmir and its puppet administration system.

The party’s slogan centered on the right to self-determination for the people of occupied Kashmir or striving for accession to Pakistan.

He devoted his days and nights to opposing India’s illegal occupation of Kashmir, for which he endured imprisonment and house arrests.

He had long been suffering from weakness and age-related illnesses, and has now left behind countless grieving admirers and ideological companions forever.
