Canada, United Kingdom, Australia and France Officially Recognize the State of Palestine

London, Paris:In a landmark diplomatic development ahead of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Governments of Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and France have formally announced their recognition of the State of Palestine as an independent and sovereign nation.

This joint step underscores the four nations’ commitment to advancing a peaceful two-state solution, ensuring dignity and security for both Palestinians and Israelis, and upholding the principles of international law and self-determination.

Rejecting external pressures, including those from the United States and Israel, the leaders of these countries emphasized that recognition of Palestine is not an endorsement of violence or extremism, but a reaffirmation of the international community’s responsibility to seek a just, lasting peace in the Middle East.

> “Recognition of Palestine is a step toward keeping alive the only viable path to peace – a negotiated two-state solution where Israelis and Palestinians can live side by side in peace, security and mutual respect,” the statement declared.

The governments further called upon the Palestinian Authority to continue governance reforms, hold democratic elections, and ensure that the Palestinian state represents unity, accountability, and peaceful coexistence. At the same time, they urged Israel to halt settlement expansion, ease humanitarian restrictions, and re-engage in meaningful negotiations.

The decision, taken in close coordination, marks the most significant recognition of Palestinian statehood by major Western powers in recent decades. It is expected to encourage other nations to follow suit and strengthen Palestine’s participation in international institutions.

The four governments reiterated their unwavering support for Israel’s right to exist in peace and security, while stressing that recognition of Palestine is essential to safeguarding the prospects of a durable and comprehensive peace in the region.
