Mardan: The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Pakistan organized a live public screening of the much-anticipated India–Pakistan cricket clash in Mardan, marking the first time a foreign mission has hosted such an event in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The initiative highlighted China’s strong commitment to promoting cultural and people-to-people ties with Pakistan.
The event drew hundreds of passionate cricket fans, who filled the venue with cheers and anticipation. While the crowd expressed disappointment over the match result, they warmly appreciated the unique gesture of the Chinese Embassy.
Ahead of the match and during the mid-innings break, specially prepared video presentations showcased major Chinese development initiatives in Pakistan, with a particular focus on the achievements of the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The videos highlighted how CPEC has spurred job creation, boosted infrastructure development, and contributed to Pakistan’s overall economic growth.
The screenings struck a chord with the audience. “I always knew Pakistan and China shared a close friendship, but I had no idea about the scale of job opportunities created by CPEC,” said one attendee. Another participant remarked, “Seeing the love and goodwill of the Chinese people toward Pakistan inspires me to visit China someday and experience that friendship firsthand.”
For many in Mardan, the evening went far beyond cricket. It offered an opportunity to gain deeper insight into Pakistan–China cooperation and its tangible impact on society.
By hosting this first-of-its-kind event in the region, the Chinese Embassy not only celebrated Pakistan’s national sport but also reinforced its commitment to public diplomacy, strengthening the bonds of trust and friendship between the people of both countries.
