President Xi Jinping welcomed IOC President Kirsty Coventry

Beijing : President Xi Jinping held a meeting with International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Kirsty Coventry and IOC Honorary President for Life Thomas Bach, who are visiting China to attend the opening ceremony of the 15th National Games.

President Xi said that in recent years, China and the IOC have supported one another in the advancement of global sports development and “achieved many big and great things together.” He reaffirmed China’s readiness to deepen high-standard cooperation with the IOC and further contribute to the growth of the Olympic Movement.

The 15th National Games are being co-hosted by Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao. President Xi highlighted that the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is among China’s most open and economically dynamic regions, and hosting the Games there reflects China’s deep commitment to high-quality development and regional integration.

“This year’s National Games will not only showcase China’s evolving sporting excellence in the new era, but also demonstrate the remarkable achievements of Chinese modernization in the Greater Bay Area,” President Xi noted.

The National Games officially opened with a grand ceremony, bringing together athletes from across the country and reaffirming China’s strong role in international sports cooperation and Olympic ideals of peace, unity, and friendship.
