Chinese Envoy Reaffirms Stronger Pakistan-China Cooperation Under SCO, Global Governance Initiative

ISLAMABAD: Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong has said that China and Pakistan will continue to deepen cooperation within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and jointly promote global peace, stability, and development under the Global Governance Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping.

Addressing a media briefing on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to China, the SCO Tianjin Summit, and the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, the envoy highlighted the outcomes of these engagements.

He said the SCO Tianjin Summit, hosted by China, concluded the organization’s “China Year” on a high note, bringing together more than 20 heads of state and government, including PM Shehbaz Sharif, and leaders of 10 international organizations. With the expansion of membership to 27 states, the summit marked a new stage of high-quality development for the SCO.

The ambassador noted that the summit finalized a 10-year development strategy, established four security centers, decided to launch an SCO development bank, and initiated multiple cooperation platforms and action plans. He added that President Xi Jinping announced 100 livelihood projects, 2 billion yuan in aid this year, 10 billion yuan in loans through the SCO Interbank Consortium over the next three years, and 10,000 training opportunities within five years.

“These steps reflect China’s responsibility and commitment to global development, cultural exchange, and human progress,” Jiang said.

Commending Pakistan’s role, he said President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong commitment to regional integration and cooperation. “Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the SCO as the best platform for advancing regional connectivity and reiterated that Pakistan will always stand with China in the pursuit of peace, progress, and prosperity,” Jiang added.

On the Global Governance Initiative, Jiang described it as a significant contribution by China to build a fairer international system, following earlier initiatives on development, security, and civilization. He explained its five guiding principles—sovereign equality, international rule of law, multilateralism, a people-centered approach, and action-oriented cooperation. He said Pakistan has expressed full support for the initiative, with PM Shehbaz calling it “a historic step toward stronger multilateralism.”

Referring to the 80th anniversary of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the envoy said the commemoration aimed to remember history, honor sacrifices, and work for peace. He stressed that history should not fuel hatred but serve as a reminder that “hegemonism and winner-takes-all approaches cannot ensure peace.”

Jiang emphasized that China’s path to modernization is rooted in peaceful development. “Both China and Pakistan suffered from aggression in history and now share the vision of global peace and prosperity. We stand ready to work together for fairness, justice, and the progress of humanity,” he concluded.
